  • There is an epidemic going on with today’s children. Kids are obsessed with YouTube videos and watching others play with toys instead of doing it themselves.
  • My 7 year old daughter is one of these obsessed children. She is exceptionally bright for her age and she could be doing so much with her time but YouTube is what she wants to spend her time on.

Why Is It Important To Get Kids Focused On Homework?

  • The younger your children are the more important it is get them focused on homework. I think everyone has heard the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” and in my experience you can but it takes a lot more time and energy to do so.
  • What this means is if you want to get your kids going on the track which will lead them to easier found success then you must set them up for that success as early as possible.

Why Does A Lack Of Homework Focus Happen?

  • At school, the classroom sizes are not small. My children have classroom sizes ranging from 26-32 students.
  • This is an insane number of children to try and teach.
    • When you add in the fact that all children are different and they all have a certain style of learning which is easiest for them we can start to understand the bigger issues public school settings are faced with.
  • The courses I am taking in Elementary Education have a big focus on mixed teaching styles throughout the lessons. In other words, teachers are aware of the learning styles but they don’t have enough time to specialize for each student.
    • Working with a wider range of teaching styles is great for involving all the different types of learners but it also leaves the kids without teaching time where they can be the focus.
  • This is why it is so important to get kids focused on homework in a place that can be all about them.
